I have joined a 30-day Productivity Challenge and wanted to share my journey with you and invite you to join me. Click here – https://30dayproductivity.com – if you want to join me. I think that this could be a lot of fun, especially completing it as a community.
Today’s productivity challenge is to break down the five goals established in yesterday’s challenge into quarterly and weekly goals. The timing for this is perfect because I did not have a chance to share the projects portion of My Dashboard in Notion due to participating in this Productivity Challenge.
I took each of the five goals from yesterday and created individual project boards for each goal. I then created tasks to associate with that goal, breaking it down into manageable steps. For example, for my playing the piano project, I identified the following tasks: get the piano tuned, complete the SkillShare lesson plan, take cantoring lessons, and practice the piano drills (scales and chords) for at least 30 minutes each day.
As you can see in the image below, I am able to customize each project to graphically represent the overall project with cover images and icons. I use the same icons on each of the tasks within the project, which then lets me know just by a glance what project a task is associated with since I have the project property hidden on my task list.

I love how seamlessly Notion took the information I entered for each project and also updated my list of tasks, making sure that I see what needs to be done to continue to move these projects forward on a continuing basis. It’s kind of hard to ignore them when they are consistently front and center. It also makes those “less than 2 minute” tasks jump out – like scheduling the piano tuner.
So, I called and scheduled the piano tuner! My piano was constructed in 1911 and even though I have had just about everything replaced, my middle E key is sticking…sometimes. As soon as the work is done, I can check it off the list.
I’m finding this approach to productivity and goal setting to be more fun and engaging then the process I used in the past. While I would craft my vision statement, it would sit in the pages of my notebook out of sight and out of mind. Clearly, since I misplaced it back in 2019 and only just recently relocated it! I like how thinking it through and leveraging the power of Notion just makes me feel better, more focused.
How is your goal setting progress? How do you feel about this process compared to what you have used in the past, if anything? I would love to hear your thoughts so let me know.
